It’s important to emphasize that one of the biggest challenges students face during an ACT or SAT exam is having the stamina to stay focused for a 4-hour test with just one 10-minute break in the middle. Students have to understand that the first bubble in the first section is worth the same amount as the last bubble in the last section. That means that building the mental ability to focus for hours straight is critical to a student performing at his or her ability on these exams.

For that reason, we strongly encourage students to get in the habit of sitting down for a minimum of ~1-hour chunks of time as they’re doing lessons and completing multiple choice questions. That being said, if a student has 15 free minutes and wants to be productive, then we recommend he or she go to the Mistake Bank and redo questions missed previously or go to Stay Sharp and focus on a specific topic. That’s a better use of that time than starting a lesson and then stopping a fraction of the way through.
